Too many people get caught up with the rumours, stories and tall-tales of blogging and let themselves be put off before they start. There are a number of myths surrounding blogging and if these are holding you back it is time to put the record straight. Myth 1: Blogging is a fad that will die out
You’ve probably heard this one a good few times. There has been a movement towards video content but the notion that blogging will die out is very far from the truth. Blogging provides the perfect way for people to get their point across, to speak about a topic that they know well or to offer advice for other people. This is why blogging will never die out because it is great for the writer, the reader and the businesses that use it. Blogging will always remain a factor when it comes to online success.

Myth 2: Blogs have to be less than 500 words
To be honest, if anyone says that a blog has to be a certain length of words, there will be more than enough examples to prove this theory wrong. Some people say that blogs need to be over 400 words to be attractive to Google while other people suggest that blogs need to be under 500 words to be attractive to readers. If this was the case, all experts would be advising you create blogs between 400 and 500 words. This is not advice from experts and this is because there is flexibility with blogs. Blogs should be as long as they need to be to get a point across. If you can do it succinctly in few words, do it. If you have a lot to say and want to explain yourself in great detail, write a long blog. Longer blogs need to be broken up with other content but there is no limit on the length of a blog, just make sure you blog what feels right.

Myth 3: You have to write well to write blogs
If you have little confidence in your writing or you feel as though you may not have the best grammar or spelling skills, don’t worry. There are spell checkers, there are grammar checkers and to be honest, most people are looking for the message. There will be people who clamp down on proper grammar and if you are an educational or serious body, it helps to have the right tone and impression. However, blogs are more informal and as long as your writing gets your point across, has passion and connects with the reader, the spelling and grammar will not be the most important things. That said, always check your spelling and grammar but don’t let a lack of confidence put you off from writing a blog. Alternately, work with a copywriter or outside content developer to craft your blog posts.

Myth 4: You need to have a lot to say to write a blog
Not everyone is looking to change the world or have a big impact. If you don’t have a lot to say, don’t push it or put yourself out there. When something comes up that will be of relevancy to your readers or audience, feel free to write but if you have no opinion on a particular topic, don’t write about it.

Myth 5: You need to create a blog post every day
There are no set rules for blogging. If you blog every day, do you have the quality, energy and vitality to write interestingly every single day? Most people don’t, and this is why blogging is not an everyday task for most businesses. Having a regular blog is of benefit but you can set the pattern that you are comfortable with.

Myth 6: Blogs must be an instant success or they’re not worth bothering with
With so much attention being placed on immediate hits, it is easy to see why you may think your blog has to pay off instantly to make it worthwhile. This is not the case, it may be that your blog content brings in plenty of good SEO benefits in the long run, so even if you don’t get sales or immediate hits, bide your time and keep on writing.

Myth 7: Blogs take a lot of time to create
Some people are faster at writing than others but as there is no limit on word counts for blogs or how regularly you have to blog, it is possible to develop your blogs over time as and when you have time. Blogs can be as short or as long as you want and you don’t need a lot of time to pull a blog together.
